8th Grade Field Trip
In October,
the 8th grade class of All Saints of St. John Vianney School will take
an educational field trip to Mount Saint Benedict Monastery in Erie,
Pennsylvania. This monastery is the "home" of Sister Veronica Mirage,
OSB, Religious Director at All Saints
School.
The field trip served several
purposes:
1. October is Vocation month. Visiting
Mount Saint Benedict Monastery gives the students
an appreciation and insight into Religious life.
2. Sister Veronica wants to show
her students her home at Mount Saint Benedict and learn how the Sisters
balance ministry and prayer.
3. The curriculum for eighth
grade Religion touches on Church history. Part of that history is
Monasticism, and since Benedictines are a monastic community, the
students gain first hand knowledge.
The students tour the Monastery,
pray the Liturgy of the Hours with the Community, lunch with the Sisters,
visit the hermitages, tour Glinodo Conference Center, visit the Benedicta
Riepp Center which includes Emmaus Ministries food pantry and kitchen,
and the Benedictine Sisters Inner City Neighborhood At House for inner
city children.
This is a very rewarding experience.
Thank you to Sister Veronica for providing this opportunity!
